We enjoyed another trip to Germany where our friends Rhonda and Georgia not only gave us room and board, but took us to no less than five German Christmas Markets.  The Christmas fairs and markets of Germany are unique and the gifts are not mass-produced but craftwork of real quality. We wondered the streets with mugs of “Glühwein"or  mulled wine each served in a souvenir mug (we now own five new mugs), eating roasted chestnuts, grilled wursts, toasted nuts, more wine, gingerbread, fried potato cakes with apple sauce, wine…….

Wiesbaden where the picturesque Schlossplatz was the spectacular setting for Wiesbaden's Sternschnuppenmarkt (Shootingstars) Christmas market. The decorations - golden lilies and the colors blue and gold - at the nostalgic craft market reflect the town's coat of arms

Warming our hands in the small village of Bacharach, named for Bacchus, the ancient Roman god of wine, is a medieval walled town only meters from the river's banks. Behind us is the Altes Haus, or old house.  This red and white building dating back to 1368 is the oldest still standing in Bacharach.
